Impress Your Admin with Educational Technology Tools for Assessment in the TPRS Classroom
You now teach with TPRS and you are losing sleep reading Blaine Ray books, but you forgot that your school wants to see you using technology! Your colleagues’ students are having fun with grammar websites, games and other activities which would give Bill VanPatten a heart attack. What do you do? How do you integrate technology in a TPRS classroom in a way that still stays true to the principles of language acquisition? How do you use tech in a way that will make your administrator’s jaw drop? Bring your laptop to this session to be coached on how to create a variety of follow up activities for story-telling, MovieTalks, and novels. Learn how to use audio-video recorded student retells, online quiz games for comprehension checks, social media for character analysis, digital storyboards and more!

TLC (Tender Love & Care) the Gateway to Acquisition
The emotional well being of a student, the creation of a safe space, and a consistent routine is a bridge to delivering your TPRS curriculum. When we demonstrate compassion, respect, and a sincere interest in our students, the students will begin to model the same behavior. Thus, it will create a relationship and an environment that is conducive to instruction and learning.

Beyond the Novel
Perhaps reading a class novel is not an end goal but a vehicle for something bigger. I challenge you to improve your end-of-novel game. How can you make deeper connections? How can you permeate culture rather than skimming it? How can you utilize Common Core and ELA standards to make students better readers and deeper thinkers?

What are we doing about comprehensibility when it comes to reading? Literacy begins with accessible texts that learners read in volumes. When learners are not reading, often it is because the texts are not appropriately scaffolded for their proficiency level. Let’s fix that.
